Mangaluru, June 1, 2025: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DKDCC) on Saturday, May 31, issued show-cause notices to its minority wing president K.K. Shahul Hameed and former Mangaluru Mayor K. Ashraf, seeking explanations for actions that allegedly tarnished the party’s image.

Congress issues show-cause notices

DKDCC General Secretary Vikas Shetty, in separate notices, highlighted that their reported decision to resign from party positions in protest against the alleged inaction of the State government in the Abdul Rahiman murder case caused embarrassment to the Congress at the national level. The leaders were reminded of their responsibility to reassure the community about the efforts of the Congress and the State government in addressing the issue and ensuring justice and safety.

The notice to Mr. Hameed stated that senior party leaders, including MLCs Manjunatha Bhandary and Ivan D’Souza, had communicated with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Nazeer Ahmed, and senior leader B.K. Hariprasad to address the grievances of the Muslim community in Dakshina Kannada. Despite assurances from these leaders and instructions to refrain from any protests or resignations, Mr. Hameed reportedly proceeded with his actions.

Mr. Ashraf, on the other hand, was accused of making public statements advising community members not to meet the district in-charge minister during his visit and making disparaging remarks about the minister. The notice emphasized that the minister is not only a senior party leader but also a responsible government representative.

Mr. Shetty noted that the actions and statements of both leaders were in violation of party discipline and demanded explanations within seven days. Failure to respond could lead to disciplinary action, the notice warned.
