Kaup, June 3, 2025: A 65-year-old resident of Belle village in Kaup taluk, who tested positive for COVID-19, passed away on Sunday, June 2, at a private hospital in Manipal.
The deceased had been undergoing treatment for abdominal cancer and was admitted to the hospital on May 29 for hypertension-related issues. A routine COVID-19 test upon admission returned positive. He succumbed to his illness on the afternoon of June 2.
Following the confirmation of the case, Kaup Tahsildar Pratibha R visited the deceased’s residence to assess the health condition of family members and extend her condolences. Health officials confirmed that none of the family members are currently showing symptoms of COVID-19.
The body remains at the hospital, and the final rites are scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, in accordance with COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Accompanying the tahsildar were a medical team and local officials who visited the village to spread awareness about COVID-19 safety measures. They emphasized the importance of following SOPs to prevent further transmission of the virus.
Among those present were Taluk Health Officer Dr. Vasudev, Shirva Medical Officer Dr. Subrahmanya, Dr. Vaishnavi, ASHA worker Yashoda, Revenue Inspector Izzar Sabir, and Village Administrative Officer Pradeep.
Udupi District Commissioner Dr. Vidyakumari clarified that since the patient was admitted for hypertension and not primarily for COVID-19, the death will not be classified as a COVID-19 fatality.
