Munnar, Sept 11, 2022: In Idukki, a young man was arrested for trying to extort money by painting a kitten as a tiger. Parthipan (24), a native of Tiruvannamala Arani, was arrested by the forest department. The forest department picked up the young man who advertised tiger cubs for sale through WhatsApp. The incident took place in Tamil Nadu border village near Marayur.
The young man posted an advertisement of tiger cubs for sale on WhatsApp along with a picture of three tiger cubs. The young man also posted a picture of feeding tiger cubs in a steel bowl as a WhatsApp status. Last Sunday, the young man posted the picture saying that he had tigers to sell. The notice said that they have three-month-old tiger cubs and that one would cost 25 lakh rupees and if paid, it would be delivered to the specified place within 10 days.
The forest department came to know about the advertisement that was circulated through WhatsApp and started an investigation. Parthipan went into hiding after getting the information that the forest department had started an investigation. Officials reached his house and checked his premises but could not find any tiger cubs or cubs of other wild animals. Later, the accused was caught during the investigation conducted with the help of the police.
It is reported that the picture of the tiger cubs was given to Parthipan by a friend from Ambattur to post on WhatsApp. The defendant testified that their program was to paint the kittens and turn them into tiger cubs for those who come looking for tiger cubs. Forest department officials stated that they are interrogating the youth in detail and checking if anyone else is involved in the fraud.
