ZP President Shailaja Bhat inaugurates Khadi Utsav 2012

Mangalore, Feb 24, 2012: K. T. Shailaja Bhat, the president of the Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the Khadi Utsav of 2012, organized by the Khadi and Gramodhyog Handicraft Exhibition cum Sale at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan on Feb 24 Friday.

In her inaugural address, she said that Khadi is considered better than other material for clothes. Since it is indigenous, it ought to be encouraged along with other domestic products of the country, she added.

She also said that use of Khadi products helps preserve the environment.

Indrajit Vikram Singh, the member of the Central Zone KVIC; S. G. Hegde, the district handmade central joint secretary; Somappa Naik, the deputy director of KVIC; Gopal Rao, the assistant director of DIC; B. Jyothi, the district Khadi Gramodhyog officer; and Veerappa Poojary were the chief guests of the occasion.

A wide range of Khadi shirts, salwars and kurtis, bags, wooden items, pickles, gold-plated ornaments, footwear, and others were on display.
