Mangalore, Jan 13, 2012: Yuva Krithi, an art fair, and Aharothsav, a food festival of mouth watering delicacies from all over the country, both events organized as part of the 17th edition of the National Youth Festival (NYF) that is being held in Mangalore, were inaugurated on Jan 13 Friday on Karavali Utsav Grounds.


Food Festival


The festival comprises 44 stalls, each featuring delicacies from different parts of India. Ajay Maken, the union minister for youth affairs and sports, inaugurated the food festival in the presence of Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister.

Delicacies such as Bihari Litti, Masala Dosa, Rajasthani Dal Bato Churma, Bamboo toasted rice of Arunachal Pradesh, and others were displayed in the stalls. A wide range of cooking enthusiasts, ranging from youth clubs to professional cooks are participating in this festival, serving delicious dishes not only to the participants, but also to the public. 


Stalls have been set up by youth clubs from Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and others. Twenty-nine of these stalls serve vegetarian specialties while nine serve pickles and dry fruits. The public can view the food festival between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. 


Yuva Krithi 


Ajay Maken, the union minister for youth affairs and sports, inaugurated the Yuva Krithi in the presence of a number of government officials and dignitaries.


Works of art from every nook and corner of India, right from Tamil Nadu in the south to Jammu and Kashmir in the North, Gujarath in the west to West Bengal in the east, are exhibited and sold at this event.

However, the stall owners are disappointed about the poor sales although a large number of people have already visited the fair. Each stall not only wants to make big sales, but also bag the award for the well-presented stall. 


Some of the items on display are life-size puppets made the tribes of Madhya Pradesh, miniature statues from Tikamgarh in MP, pillows, saris, tops, and covers from Bihar, marble elephants from Agra, carvings from Peepli in Bhubaneshwar, and many others. 


The other items include bamboo and rosewood items from Kerala, wood items from Chhattisgarh, metal deer, art work from Bidar, fry fruits and natural saffron from Jammu and Kashmir, three-dimensional paintings from Punjab, and calligraphy from New Delhi.
