Youths Assault Police Constable on Night Patrol in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 24, 2026: Youths travelling on a two-wheeler allegedly assaulted a police constable who was checking suspicious vehicles during night patrol duty and fled from the spot. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.

The incident took place near Narayana Guru Co-operative Society at Urwa Kodikal in the city during the early hours of Sunday. Two police constables were on duty at around 2 am when a two-wheeler passed the area at high speed. Despite police instructions to stop, the riders allegedly ignored the signal and sped away.

According to police, the youths returned to the same spot a short while later and attacked one of the constables using a piece of cement sheet before escaping from the scene.

City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the constable attempted to evade the blow by bending down, but sustained head injuries in the assault.

A case has been registered at Urwa Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
