Addressing the gathering, Dr. M. Vijayakumar stressed the importance of protecting biodiversity. “Right from the beginning, Yenepoya institutions have given maximum importance to the environment. Accreditation bodies also give importance to green campus activities. This book is a valuable documentation of the biodiversity found on our campus,” he said.

Dr. Bhagya B. Sharma, editor of the compendium, introduced the book to the audience. She informed that Yenepoya institutions have taken numerous initiatives and projects to foster an eco-friendly sustainable campus. The foreword to the book has been written by Anant Hegde Ashisara, environmentalist and former Director of the Karnataka Biodiversity Board.

The book is dedicated to the memory of the late Prof. Gopalakrishna Bhat, a renowned taxonomist, who carried out the audit of the plant diversity on the campus. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 7, 2022. The animal species were documented by zoologists Dr. Deepak and Mr. Vivek. They have recorded a range of worms, spiders, snakes, butterflies and mammals on the campus. Dr. Prasad Kini, a medical practitioner at Karkala and Dr. Uma Kulkarni, an Ophthalmologist, have contributed the photographs of birds (shot on campus) to this book.

Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Sripathi Rao, Prof. Abdul Rahiman (former Vice Chancellor of Kannur and Calicut University), registrar Dr. Gangadhara Somayaji, Dr. Akhter Husain, Principal, Yenepoya Dental College  and Dr. Gulzar Ahmed, Principal, Yenepoya Pharmacy College were present.
