Puttur, Oct 6, 2026: Puttur Rural police have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly transporting 11 cattle to Kerala without the required licence or permits.
The arrested accused has been identified as Shivaprasad (52), a resident of Aryapu in Puttur. Police said he had allegedly sold the cattle for transportation without obtaining the necessary permits.
The incident came to light in the early hours of October 5, after Puttur Rural police sub-inspector Sushma G. Bhandary received information about cattle being transported illegally to Kerala in a pickup vehicle.
Acting on the information, the officer and her team intercepted a pickup vehicle bearing registration number KA-19-AF-8558 at Biliyurkatte in Balnad village.
The driver and another person travelling in the vehicle fled the spot when police stopped it. During inspection, police found 11 cattle packed inside the vehicle in an allegedly cruel manner.
Police said the cattle were being transported to Kerala without the required licence or permits, allegedly for slaughter and sale of the meat.
Puttur Rural police have registered a case under Crime No. 125/2026 under Sections 4, 6, 7 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 2020, and Section 11(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Further investigation is underway.
