Wednesday’s rain destroys property worth Rs. 4.24 lakh in Kundapur

Udupi, April 20, 2012 : A number of areca, banana, and rubber plantations, including 11 houses, were destroyed in the storm that struck several places of Kundapur on the night of Wednesday. The total financial loss comes up to Rs. 4.24 lakh.

According to the Kundapur Taluk office, Jalaja Shedthi’s house was damaged and around 100 areca palms were destroyed in Thombattu alone, causing financial loss of Rs. 1 lakh.

A house in Alur was damaged, causing a total loss of Rs. 40,000. Besides, houses belonging to Lakshmi Poojary, Bhadru Poojary, and Sanjeeva Poojary in Amasebail were damaged and Mahalinga Poojary’s house was partially damaged when a tree fell on it, causing a total loss of Rs. 40,000.

Krishni Shedthi of Amasebail lost a banana and areca plantation worth an estimated Rs. 60,000 in the storm. A tree fell on Raghavendra’s house in Ulloor, causing a financial loss of Rs. 40,000 to the owner. Besides, houses belonging to Devaki Raghavendra and Susamma George have been damaged in Madur, a house belonging to Nagamma Gonda was damaged in Yedthare, and a house belonging to Bharathi Poojarthi was damaged in Rattady.
