We will not allow slavery in name of religion: Nidumamidi Seer at jatha against Made Snana

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 24, 2012: It is the duty of each and every individual to take up cudgels against some superstitious rituals in the name of religion, which are nothing but symbols of slavery, said Sri Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji of Nidumamidi Mahasamsthana Mutt, Bangalore.

He was speaking after inaugurating a padayatra from Mangalore to Udupi organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), in front of the DC office on December 24, Monday, opposing the Made Snana ritual observed in Kukke Subrahmanya Temple and the Pankthi Bedha at the Sri Krishna Mutt at Udupi.

The Nidumamidi seer further said that   some people who could secure a Supreme Court stay to the High Court ruling against Made Snana were celebrating as if it was their victory. No individual who has an inner conscience will support such rituals, he added.

“The priestly class which was making good use of the innocence of the Malekudiyas was keeping the tradition alive for its own interests. There is a need to launch this movement after convincing the Malekudiyas and involving them in the agitation,” the seer further said. “We are of the strong belief that the Supreme Court ruling would be against these two practices. In case of any adverse ruling, then the fight will continue until the practice is banned,” the seer declared.

P Srinivas Rao, CPI (M) Central Politbureau Member, who also spoke, said it was shameful to note that India is still following such superstitious rituals even 65 years after independence. He also urged the people to be part of the agitation and not to allow some vested interests to keep such superstitious practices alive.

Maruti Maanade, CPIM State Secretariat Member, B Madhava, District President, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were present.
