Udupi, July 14, 2026: Two brothers, including a college student from Udupi, drowned while swimming in a stream at Mastijaddi village near Unchalli in Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Madan Naik (16) and Harsha Naik (18), both residents of Honnavar. Harsha was a second-year Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) student at a private college in Brahmavar.
According to reports, the brothers had gone swimming near a check dam across the stream when they accidentally slipped into a section of water about 15 feet deep and drowned.
Upon receiving information, a rescue team from the Sri Marikamba Rescue Team, led by Gopal Gouda, rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies.
Banavasi Police Station PSI Mahantappa Kumbar visited the scene and conducted a preliminary inspection. The bodies were later shifted to Sirsi for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered at the Banavasi Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
The management, faculty, and students of the Brahmavar college expressed their condolences over the untimely demise of Harsha and his younger brother.
