Veteran Tulu theatre artiste, film actor Ramesh Kalladka passes away at 68

Bantwal, July 23, 2025: Veteran Tulu theatre artiste and film actor Ramesh Kalladka passed away at the age of 68 on Wednesday morning after suffering a heart attack at his residence in Kolakeeru, Kalladka. He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Ramesh Kalladka devoted over 30 years to theatre and had been associated with the Kalasangama troupe, led by Vijayakumar Kodialbail, for the past two decades. Trained under Kodialbail, he played prominent roles in numerous social and mythological plays. His portrayal of Bheemarava in Shivadhootaguli earned him wide acclaim, while his role as Dada Konde in Shivaji was also highly praised.

Born in April 1957, Ramesh began his acting journey at a young age with the Mitrabalaga troupe led by Shantharam Kalladka. He later joined Tuluvaappe Jokulu and eventually transitioned into professional Tulu theatre. He also established the Maitri Kalavidaru troupe in Kalladka, which regularly performed during the Sharadotsava festival.

Known for his discipline and humility, Ramesh was one of the most respected senior artistes in Kalasangama. He had performed in major cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru. Just two days before his passing, he had returned home after a stage performance.

Ramesh featured in several of Vijayakumar Kodialbail’s acclaimed Tulu plays, including Oriyardori Asal and Madime, and gained renewed recognition through productions like Shivadhootaguli and Shivaji. Beyond theatre, he was active in social service and was a founding trustee of the Sharadotsava Committee in Kalladka. He was also known as a skilled master of ceremonies.

His passing marks a great loss to the Tulu theatre community. The final rites were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Rudrabhoomi in Kalladka.
