Dr. Narendra Rai Derla delivered the keynote address. He said that Tembare not only focuses on the beauty of Tulu folklore, but also gives an insight into the pain of the community involved with that art form.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Veerappa Moily referred to Basti Vaman Shenoy as a “visionary,” adding that the visions of World Konkani Centre have been realized only because of his hard work.

Speaking about the book, he said that he wrote it to inform the world about the richness of Tulu culture and folklore and the pain of those working hard to preserve it. Stating that the book has won a number of awards, including the Jananpith award, he said that he will feel rewarded only when people start taking his book seriously.

Translator Ramesh Laad said that Tembare will attract a number of readers, especially in Goa as the book focuses on the cultural riches of the south.
