Vedike launches signature campaign to resume Sultan Battery-Tannirbavi suspension bridge works

Mangalore, Jan 21: The Tulunada Rakshana Vedike has launched a signature campaign to pressurize the government to resume works on the Sultan Battery- Tannirbavi suspension bridge, a project the fate of which is hanging fire ever since the works have been suspended.

The signature campaign was inaugurated at Tannirbavi by Fr Sunil K D’Souza, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fathima Church by giving his signature.
Yogish Shetty Jeppu, Founder President of the Vedike,  Naveenchandra Suvarna, Latish Putran, Jyothika Jain, Srikanth Salian, Vinutha D’Souza, Taranath S Jattanna, office bearers of the Vedike and several others were present.
Several locals too contributed theirs signatures to the memorandum which will be forwarded to the Chief Minister.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Vedike  has said that the suspension of the bridge works has hit hard the people of Tannirbavi   who depended on ferry service to reach Sultan Battery and then  travel by bus to Mangalore from there.

With thousands of tourists visiting the beach during Sundays and holidays, locals find it difficult to use the ferry service and reach home by 8 pm by when the ferry service is suspended, the Vedike has pointed out.

Though the suspension bridge project was thought to be a boon, the suspension of the works has been a great disappointer, the Vedike said and has urged the government to resume works on the bridge and complete it at the earliest.
