Mangaluru woman loses Rs 9.33 lakh in work-from-home job scam

Mangaluru, Sep 23, 2026: A 25-year-old woman from Mangaluru allegedly lost Rs 9.33 lakh after being lured by unidentified persons with a work-from-home data entry job, according to a complaint filed with the CEN Crime Police Station.

According to the complaint, the woman received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number on September 11. The sender allegedly introduced himself as an HR representative of a company called Megha and offered her a work-from-home data entry job. He later shared a Telegram link, through which she joined a group.

She was told that she could earn Rs 200 for completing 20 tasks a day. After completing the assigned tasks on the first day, she received Rs 200.

The following day, she was assigned 13 tasks but was unable to complete them. She was then contacted by another Telegram user who identified himself as Amarjeet Kumar and allegedly persuaded her to continue.

She initially transferred Rs 3,000 through UPI. When she sought a refund after being unable to complete the tasks, the accused allegedly instructed her to transfer money to different bank accounts on the pretext of enabling her to withdraw the amount.

Following the instructions, the woman transferred a total of Rs 9,33,866 in multiple transactions between September 12 and 17.

She later realised that she had allegedly been duped in an online work-from-home job scam and approached the CEN Crime Police Station, where she filed a complaint.
