Former minister B Ramanath Rai discharged from hospital after road accident

Mangaluru, Sep 23, 2026: Former minister B Ramanath Rai, who was injured in a road accident near Sanur in Karkala on Sunday, was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday evening and returned home.

Doctors have advised Rai to take 15 days of rest at home. He is out of danger and recovering.

Rai was travelling to Karkala to attend the engagement ceremony of a panchayat member when the car he was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a private bus near the Srirama Mandir Divider Cross at Sanur on National Highway 169.

Rai’s driver Abhishek, personal assistants Denzil Noronha and Charan, and his gunman were also travelling in the car. All of them were injured in the accident.

Except Denzil Noronha, the others received treatment at Yenepoya Hospital in Mangaluru and have since recovered and returned home.

Denzil sustained an injury to his leg and underwent surgery on Tuesday. He is currently recovering.

After news of Rai’s accident and hospitalisation spread, hundreds of people, including MPs, MLAs, leaders of various political parties and his supporters, visited the hospital to enquire about his health.
