Vedavyas Kamath accuses Karnataka government of stalling development, raising fees

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, January 31, 2026: BJP leader Vedavyas Kamath on Friday accused the state government of failing to release a single rupee to the Coastal Development Authority over the past two-and-a-half years and claimed that none of the development projects announced by the government have been implemented.

Speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Karnataka Assembly, Kamath alleged that the government had compelled the Governor to “speak falsehoods” in the address.

He also criticised the government for raising rates and charges across various sectors, including stamp duty and excise, and highlighted the steep increase in the fee for death certificates, which has risen from Rs 5 to Rs 70.

Kamath further alleged that no foundation stone-laying ceremony has taken place in his constituency since the current government assumed office, asserting that development work across the state has stalled.

While the government claims to maintain financial discipline, he argued, it reportedly lacks the funds even to clear contractors’ bills.

The BJP leader also accused the government of delaying elections to local bodies, which he said has disrupted the flow of central funds meant for these institutions.

Kamath additionally claimed that grants of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for temple development, provided during the previous BJP regime, have now been discontinued.
