Mangalore, Aug 16, 2013: Temples dedicated to Goddesses across the city and various parts of the district offered special poojas on August 16, Friday on the occasion of the auspicious day of Varamahalakshmi Vritha.

 

Devout women flocked various temples including Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mangaladevi Temple and Urva Mariamma and offered prayers to the Goddess seeking good health, wealth, prosperity and bliss to them and their families.There is a belief that observing Varamahalakshmi Vritha wherein  Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth is welcomed to homes,  will fulfill all wishes of devotees.

The Varamahalakshmi Vritha is considered the most sacred and auspicious of all festivals celebrated in India.  Varalakshmi is not just considered a Goddess who grants boons, but also as a Goddess who is invited into the home and honoured. Women offer prayers to the Goddess seeking well being of their family,  virtuous offspring and longevity of their husbands.

Varamahalakshmi Vritha  is observed on the last Friday that falls before the full moon day in the month of Shravanamasa. In other words, it is observed on Shravana Shukla Shukravara, that is, the Friday immediately following the full moon day (Purnima) in the auspicious month of Shravana.
