Mangaluru, Oct 31, 2026: Actor Prakash Raj on Saturday said the ongoing movement against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was not merely a fight to protect voting rights but also an effort to bring down the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inspired by the RSS.
He was speaking at the ’Samuhika Janata Nadige’ (People’s March) organised by the Joint Forum of Secular Political Parties and Organisations from Ambedkar Circle to Clock Tower in Mangaluru, demanding the withdrawal of SIR and the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Prakash Raj alleged that the BJP leaders Narendra Modi and Amit Shah had been exposed while attempting to destroy evidence. Referring to Modi’s allegation that the Opposition was trying to overthrow the government, he said, "Yes, we have come to bring down your government. But we are not Nepal, Bangladesh or Pakistan. We have come to peacefully uproot this BJP government through the power of our votes and the rights guaranteed by Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s Constitution."
He alleged that SIR was not just about electoral fraud but was also aimed at deleting votes added during recent elections. He said the struggle could succeed only through the collective strength of citizens and not political parties alone.
"All political parties consider people merely as voting machines. Prime Minister Modi, you will not remain in power for long. The pot of your sins is full," he said.
Taking aim at the political situation in coastal Karnataka, Prakash Raj alleged that people in the region were being misled through misinformation and their minds filled with false narratives.
"What has happened to healthcare, the economic situation and employment opportunities for youth in Dakshina Kannada? What has happened to communal harmony? These problems will eventually reach your doorstep too. It is our youth who are in jail, and people must understand this," he said.
He asserted that voting was a fundamental democratic right and warned the Modi government against any attempt to take it away from citizens.
Several leaders of political parties and organisations, including Padmaraj R., M.G. Hegde, Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, Lakshmeesha Dabbanaladka, Ashraf, V. Kukyan, Jayanthi B. Shetty and Shekhar Vamanjoor, were present.
