Mangalore, Oct 19, 2013 : Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations will be meaningful only when we understand the works of Valmiki and incorporate his ideals in life, said JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South.
He was presiding over the inaugural function of the Valmiki Jayanthi celebrations organised by Dakshina Kannada district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Scheduled Class Welfare Department, Kannada and Culture Department and DK Valmiki Nayaka Association at DK Zilla Panchayat auditorium here on October 18, Friday.




The Valmiki Ramayana explains how a country should be administered, Lobo said.
The programme was earlier inaugurated by Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangalore North. Dr Hanuma Nayak, Professor of History in Mangalore University, gave a talk on Valmiki.
Meritorious students from SC community who scored above 85 per cent in PUC exams were honoured at the function.
N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, Tulasi Maddineni, ZP CEO, K Dayanand, Additional DC, Sabeer Ahmed Mulla, ITDP Project Co-ordinator, Chandrahas Rai, Deputy Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture and several others were present as chief guests.
