University willing to collaborate with Tulu study centre - VC

Bantwal, Dec 25, 2011: Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy said that the university will support the Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre set up at Sanchayagiri in BC Road. 


Delivering the inaugural address after inaugurating Drishti Srishti, a national-level art camp based on the life and achievements of the Queen of Ullal by the study centre, the VC expressed his appreciation of the centre and said that the centre can organize educational events in collaboration with the university’s Tulu Study Chair.

Further speaking about the Tulu Study Chair, he said that it receives an annual government grant to organize a wide range of events such as talks, seminars, conferences, and so on, adding that the university is willing to bear the expenses if the Abbakka Study Centre chooses to collaborate with it to organize events. 


Delivering the introductory address, Prof. Thukaram Poojary, who played an active role in the establishment of this centre, expressed his gratitude to all his supporters. He also revealed his plans to spent Rs. 50 crore on constructing a Tulu village and an open air theatre. 


The chief guest of the event was T. S. Nagabharana, the president of the Karnataka Film Academy.


Twenty-seven artists from all over India will participate in this 5-day camp. Some of these artists are V. T. Kale of Bellary, Vasudeo Kamath of Mumbai, and K. N. Ramachandran of Bangalore. Their work will be exhibited in the centre’s gallery on Dec 28.
