Unable to repay loan, fast food centre owner attempts suicide inside co-op society premises

Sullia, Feb 21, 2023: The owner of a fast food centre at Gandhinagar in Sullia who had availed loan from the Saraswathi Credit Co-operative Society but could not repay it, attempted suicide at the bank on February 20, Monday. However the bank manager and staff in a swift move prevented his suicide attempt just as the fast food centre owner Shivanna Gowda doused himself with petrol and threatened to end life.

He had availed Rs 18.5 lakhs from the bank in 2015 but could not pay his instalments during the Covid pandemic. The bank had even provided concession in interest to Shivanna.

On Monday as soon as the society was opened, Shivanna who entered the premises attempted suicide. Later the police arrived at the spot and took him to custody. A case has been registered.
