Mangalore, January 16: Criticizing the double standards of the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) and the way its leaders are openly supporting corrupt activities, Congress leader V. S. Ugrappa said on Sunday that BJP leaders have robbed the state of more than Rs. 1 lakh crore. He was addressing reporters at the district office of the Congress party.
Flaying the BJP high command for closing its eyes to the illegal and corrupt activities of the Yeddyurappa government, Ugrappa said that the BJP government has definitely robbed the state of over Rs. 1 lakh crore through various scams such as BDA, KIADB, and illegal mining. Accusing the national leaders of the BJP of having benefited from these scams, he said that if they haven’t, they wouldn’t have hesitated to ask the chief minister to step down from his post.
Accusing the CM of protecting the Reddy brothers although they have cheated the government of more than Rs. 3,154 crore only because he has received a share from them, he said that the national leaders of the BJP are constantly justifying the CM’s actions only because it must have received a share from the Reddy brothers.
Regarding the recently concluded Taluk Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat elections, in which the BJP emerged victorious, he said that although the BJP had misused power and spent a lot of money, it has not been successful of meeting its target of bagging 20 out of 30 ZP seats and 100 out of 176 TP seats. The fact that the BJP has launched its Operation Kamala in Bellary and other places of the state proves that the party has no faith in democracy and decentralization of power. He accused the state government of killing democracy with its Operation Kamala and by disqualifying several MLAs.
He said that the state government is still a minority government, enjoying the support of only 106 MLAs even after disqualifying several MLAs. The state government will not survive, he predicted.
