Mangaluru, December 16, 2025: A “Corner Meet” program was held at St. Agnes College in Mangaluru as part of the “Drug-Free Mangaluru” campaign, organized in collaboration with the Make A Change Foundation and the Mangaluru City Police Department.
On this occasion, Suhail Kandak, founder of the Make A Change Foundation, said that Mangaluru is a city with a rich history and is renowned in fields like education and healthcare. However, recent unfortunate incidents have caused the city’s name to be associated more with negative issues, which is painful. To change this, students must join the “Drug-Free Mangaluru” campaign. He called upon students to help Mangaluru regain national attention, especially in education and healthcare, as it once did.
Manohar, Deputy Superintendent of Kadri Police Station, Mangaluru, said that building a drug-free Mangaluru requires the cooperation of students and educational institutions. If they provide information about students falling victim to drugs, the police have the responsibility to protect them from addiction. To support this, the department also provides free counseling services. He emphasized that filing cases against students is not the goal; the main aim is to help them overcome substance abuse.
Beena, head of the Burn Again Foundation, shared her personal experiences with students, recalling her college days and the struggles she faced in overcoming addiction. She warned that substance abuse does not just destroy an individual but can also ruin entire families and societal systems.
The event was attended by others, including former corporator Naveen D’Souza, St. Agnes Degree College Principal Dr. Sister M. Venisa A.C., Guruprasad, and Lavanya Ballal.
