Manipal, Feb. 8, 2026: Udupi–Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary on Saturday said that the Central Government has identified four tourist destinations in Udupi district for development under the National Mission for Developing Globally Competitive Tourism Destinations.
Chairing a meeting to discuss the implementation of the mission proposed by the Union Ministry of Tourism at Rajatadri, the district office complex in Manipal, Mr. Poojary said the Centre plans to develop more than 50 tourist destinations across the country to global standards.

He said the mission aims to promote sustainable and responsible tourism by developing destinations in an environmentally friendly manner, while safeguarding natural and cultural resources. Special emphasis would be laid on infrastructure development to enhance tourist facilities and connectivity.
Mr. Poojary added that the Central Government has earmarked ₹300 crore for the implementation of the scheme across the country. He said private sector participation would be encouraged under the mission, with the government providing the required land to facilitate development.
