Five students from Kerala detained in for Ragging in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 27, 2026: City police have detained five students from different parts of Kerala in connection with an alleged ragging incident involving two students of a private college in Mangaluru.

A case was registered at the Mangaluru South police station on Wednesday based on a complaint by Ameer Ali, 19, a native of Chavakkad in Kerala and a student of the college.

According to the complaint, Ali and his classmate Mahammed Alfaz were allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and ragged by senior students on August 19. The accused allegedly took the two students to an isolated location after they refused to comply with their demands and assaulted them with belts, metal rods and pipes.

The students were also allegedly stripped and threatened with further consequences if they reported the incident to college authorities.

Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Five students were detained on Friday from Payyannur, Kannur, Kozhikode and Kasaragod in Kerala. They have been identified as Rehan MP, 19, Mohammed Uvais, 19, Mohammed Adil, 19, Rohan Ramesh, 19, and Naseed Ameer, 19.

The remaining accused have been identified as Ashrak, Anish, Adil V P and Shinas. Further investigation is underway.
