Mangalore, May 12: With a marginal decrease from the previous year’s percentage of 88.93, Dakshina Kannada has maintained its status quo by bagging second place in the II PUC results announced on Tuesday. Among 25,525 fresh candidates who had appeared for the exam, 22,101 candidates passed in the district achieving the pass percentage of 86.59.




Like the previous years, the girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 83.73, while the boys pass percentage stopped at 74.25. Among 15,429 girl candidates who appeared for the exam, 12,918 candidates passed, while among 14,775 boys who appeared for the exam, 10,969 of them passed.


As far as difference of result between English medium and Kannada medium students is concerned, there has been a significant variation between the two. If the English medium students have performed well with the pass percentage of 81.99 per cent, the Kannada medium students have lagged behind with the pass percentage of 51.33.


Urban/Rural

Both the urban and the rural students have performed equally well and no urban-rural disparity has been found. If the pass percentage of the urban candidates is 86.8, the percentage of rural students stands at 86.12. Out of 17,406 urban fresh candidates who had appeared for the exam, 15,109 have passed. Of 8,119 rural candidates who appeared for the exam, 6,992 have passed.


Among the three main streams, highest number of Science students have passed when compared to the pass percentage of Commerce and Arts candidates. The pass percentage of Science students is 89.56, while of the Commerce students is 87.89 and the Arts is 81.18.


42.1 per cent of private candidates and 30.6 repeaters have passed the exam.


Top mark holders

Few of the students from St Aloysius College, Expert PU College and Alva’s College have performed extremely well in the exams.


If Preetha Sequiera from St Aloysius College has emerged as one of the State toppers in Commerce stream with 590 marks, Rukmini Prabhu from the same college has secured 586 in Science stream. The other students to scored high marks in Science stream are Arpitha Aithal and Jeevitha S with 578 marks, Krathan Krishna with 576, while in Commerce steam Janice Tina D’Silva and Lauren Janice Lobo have scored 580 and 575 respectively. Imtiaz Ferzine has topped the Arts stream with 540 marks.


Meanwhile, Sneha V from Expert PU College has scored 586 marks. At the same time, Anushree A Bannadabhavi from Alva’s College, Moodbidri, has topped the Science section in district with 97.5 pc (585) and Archana H V has topped Commerce with 96.66 pc (580).


5 colleges with 100 pc results

Five colleges from five taluks each of the district have achieved 100 per cent results. Two government colleges namely Government PU College, Mutthur (Mangalore taluk) and Government PU College, Koyyur (Belthangady), two private colleges namely Markajal Huda PU College, Kumbra (Puttur) and K S Gowda PU College Ninthikallu (Sullia) and an aided college Sathya Sai PU College, Alike (Bantwal) are the colleges which secured 100 per cent results. Alike and Muttur Colleges had secured cent percent results even the last year, informed PU Education Deputy Director K S Ramesh.


Nalanda PU College has received ‘0’ per cent result as both the students who had appeared for the exams failed.


Udupi tops in PU results
Udupi, May 12: Udupi district has excelled as the topper for the second consecutive year in the II PUC examinations in State with overall passing percentage of 87.15. As many as 15,420 students had appeared for the examination, of which 12,081 have passed.



As many as 725 students have secured distinction in the district. About 6,244 have scored first class. And 3,229 students have passed with second class. As many as 3,339 students have failed in the exam. Three colleges have recorded cent per cent results in the district and the colleges are Poorna Prajna College, Udupi, Government Pre University College, Palli and Green Valley Pre University College, Shiroor.


As many as 7,499 boys and 7,921 girls had appeared for the examination. Sanjoth Shetty from Poorna Prajna College has topped the Science discipline in district with 587 marks. He has stood third in the State. Raghuveer Pai from Viveka Pre University College, Kota shared second place with Dheeksha Rao from Poorna Prajna College, Admaru as both scored 580 marks.


In Commerce section, Pooja Bhat from Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapura, has topped with 584 marks. Ullas Kamath from SMS College, Brahmavara and Priyanka Nayak from PPC have secured second and third place respectively.


In Arts discipline, Ayeehsaniha from Kambadakone Government Pre University College stood first with 539 marks. Dheeksha from Government Pre University College, Udupi and Prasanna from Janatha Pre University College Hejmadi secured second and third place respectively.  


Speaking to Deccan Herald, Sanjoth Shetty informed, he never attended any coaching classes or tutorials and his preparations for exams were based on class room teachings.


“My parents supported me in every phase of my life,” he said. He wants to be an IAS officer. However, at present he wants to study engineering in any discipline at NITK, Surathkal, he added. He had scored 96.5% in SSLC. He is an alumni of Jawahar Navodaya School. His father Sunil Kumar Shetty is a lawyer and mother Jyothi Shetty is a housewife.
