Udupi: Gas tanker overturns near Katapady; leak triggers emergency response

Udupi, Mar 16, 2026: Panic gripped the Katapady area on Monday morning after a gas tanker travelling from Mangaluru towards Udupi overturned on the roadside, leading to reports of a gas leak.

According to preliminary information, the tanker reportedly lost control and overturned near a diversion meant for vehicles heading towards Udupi from Mangaluru. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

Soon after the mishap, gas was suspected to be leaking from the tanker, raising concerns among locals and motorists about a potential hazard in the area.
