Udupi, March 26, 2013 : In most of the cases the condition of Tuberculosis patients worsens owing to ignorance, said Dayasheela , Dharmasthala rural Development Project Officer.
He was speaking after inaugurating the District level World Tuberculosis Day programme held at Pragathi Saudha at Ambalpady on March 24, Sunday. Continuing, Dayasheela emphasized the need to create a greater awareness in the society regarding the symptoms and treatment of the disease.
Dr Ramachandra Bairi, District Health and Family Welfare Officer said every year 94 lakh people across the globe are diagnosed with tuberculosis of whom 18 lakh die. Every year as many as 14 lakh HIV positive people get affected by TB, he informed.
He further said 18 lakh people in India contract TB every year of whom 3.2 lakh die. A person who fails to undergo the treatment regimen for TB will spread the disease to at least 10 to 15 people, he said.
Dr Vishwanath B, District TB Control Officer, M Junjanna, Information Officer and others were present.
