Udupi, July 23, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the PWD Quarters robbery case, Udupi Town police have arrested two inter-state burglars and recovered stolen silver, gold, and cash worth over ₹86,000.
The arrests were made under the guidance of Udupi district SP Hariram Shankar, IPS. The investigation team included Additional SP Sudhakar Naik, DySP Prabhu D T, Udupi Town Inspector Manjunath Badiger, and PSIs Bharatesh Kankanawadi and Eranna Shiragumpi.
The case was registered following a complaint by Kushal H R, a resident of the PWD Quarters at Mission Compound. The theft occurred between 6:00 pm on July 19 and 7:00 am on July 20. The burglars had unscrewed the door latch to gain access, located a hidden key inside a sewing machine, and looted silver ornaments and cash from a cupboard.
CCTV footage from the NH-66 area helped police identify the suspects, leading to the swift arrest of two individuals: Bangad alias Bangu alias Ramesh Jawan Singh (37) and Kaliya alias Kalu (25), both from Kushki taluk in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh.
Police recovered 681.830 grams of silver ornaments valued at ₹80,970, 470 mg of gold worth ₹4,250, and ₹1,700 in cash. The stolen items included anklets, waist belts, bangles, toe rings, waist chains, silver plates, kadas, and bracelets.
Investigations revealed that both accused have a history of theft. Ramesh has 11 pending cases in another state, while Kalu is linked to three cases in Udupi. They are known to target homes on weekends.
Both have been produced before the court. Police are continuing efforts to track down a third accused who remains at large.
