According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:10 pm on June 27 at a fuel station in Subhash Nagar, Kurkal village, Karkala taluk. The petrol bunk is owned by Daniel C. Ammanna and is managed by Ashish (27), a resident of Mangaluru.

Police said the three accused arrived at the fuel station in a white Ford EcoSport (KA-14-MB-8452). One of the passengers seated in the rear asked fuel station employee Shashank to fill diesel into the vehicle’s tank.

After diesel worth ₹4,711.09 was dispensed, the staff displayed a QR code for payment. The occupants scanned the code and requested the bill. However, while the bill was being generated, they allegedly drove away without making the payment.

Based on a complaint, Shirva Police registered a case (Crime No. 56/2026) under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Acting on technical evidence and other investigative leads, a police team led by Karkala DYSP Vijay Prasad and Kapu Circle Inspector Azmath Ali, under the supervision of Shirva PSI Manjunath Marabada, traced and arrested the accused in Bengaluru. The team also included PSI Lohith Kumar C.S. and police personnel Harsha Bhat, Basavaraj, and Dariyappa.

The Ford EcoSport allegedly used in the crime has been seized. Police said the accused have been taken into custody and will be produced before the court.

Further investigation is underway to determine whether the trio was involved in similar fuel payment frauds at other petrol pumps.
