Udupi , Jan 19, 2012 : Devotees and people of Udupi once again witnessed the magnificent procession representing the rich tradition and ancient culture of the soil exploring the mega gala event of Paryaya that covered a distance of about 2 km from traditional old entrance point Jodukatte to Car Street.
Thousands of spectators thronged to the streets to get the glimpses of tableaux and cultural troupes. As many as 18 tableaux depicting the scenes from epics such as “Nagavalli,” “Chanuramardhana,” “Bhasmasura- Mohini,” “Samudra Manthan,” “Kalinga Mardan,” “Krishnaleela,” “Dashavatar,” “Panchavrindavan,” “Hanumadvilasa” besides replicas of Saint Vadiraja Swami, Sri Bhootharaja and Sri Bhoovaraha took part in the procession.
Other folk cultural troupes reflecting the tradition of Karnataka such as Chende (both men and women team), Nasik Band troupe, folk dance troupe, Kombu (huge horn) Gombe Kunitha, Keelu Kudure, Tiger dance troupe, Karaga Dance, Marakalu Huli, Kangeelu dance, Poothani dance, Panchavadya troupe and several Bhajan troupes preceded the procession.
Pattada Devaru of Sode mutt “Sri Hayagreeva and Sri Bhoovaraha” were brought in a decorated golden palanquin in the lead followed by the palanquins carrying the saffron clad seers at the fag end of the procession.
The entire city was immersed in the surge of festive look with illumination on either sides of the roads and buildings. Huge banners, buntings and welcome arches were erected.
Earlier, Sode Mutt seer left for “Dandathirtha” near Kaup in the wee hours to take a holy dip in the holy pond. Later, the seer wearing saffron silk “zari shawl” and saffron turban on his head entered Udupi city at the old traditional entrance point of Jodukatte. He was received by the other seers of Asta mutts and was brought in a procession to the Car Street.
Upon his arrival at the entrance of main Car Street, all the seers were given white carpet welcome. The incoming Sode seer after offering prayers at “Kanakana Kindi” visited the two oldest temples Sri Anantheshwar and “Chandramouleeshwar” temples before entering Sri Krishna temple. Shiroor seer welcomed the incoming seer at the entrance of the temple and led him inside the temple to perform the ceremony of transformation of powers.
Later, both the seers proceeded towards “Badagu Malige,” where the informal mini “Paryaya Durbar” and “Malike Mangalarathi” was held. Garlands, chandan and pleasantries were exchanged among the seers. The new Paryaya seer felicitated the outgoing Shiroor seer and other seers of Asta mutts.
