The municipal contractor had directed his workers to excavate the underground drainage system in front of Kidiyoor Hotel on the night of Thursday. The workers cut cables on the road side and threw them away, in the process cutting the telephone connections of thousands of consumers in the city.

The telephone staff began getting thousands of complaints, as a result of which telephone officers rushed to the spot and raised objection. By the night of Friday, the cables were rejoined and the telephone department officers have assured that the rest of the repair work will be done on Saturday.
