Udupi: Cow killed by lightning and a house damaged in Marne

Udupi, June 6, 2024: A cow was struck by lightning and killed in Nalkuru village of Brahmavar taluk during a storm on Wednesday evening, while a house in Marne village of Karkala taluk sustained damage, according to reports.

The cow, belonging to Pumpa Naik of Nalkuru village, was struck by lightning, resulting in an estimated loss of over ₹15,000. In Marne village, a house belonging to Gopi was partially damaged by lightning, causing an estimated loss of ₹50,000.

The monsoon has not yet fully arrived in the district. Rainfall is occurring only in the evenings, while the rest of the day remains hot and sunny, making the heat difficult to bear.

The average rainfall in the district has been 11.4 mm. Hebri recorded 18.2 mm, Karkala 17.6 mm, Kundapur and Brahmavar 9.8 mm, Udupi 9.1 mm, Byndoor 5.7 mm, and Kaup 4.9 mm.

According to weather forecasts, moderate rain is expected in most parts of the three coastal districts of the state tomorrow. However, heavy rain is likely from June 8 to 10.
