Udupi, Feb 17, 2012: The Congress party organized a condolence meeting in honor of Dr. V. S. Acharya on Feb 16 Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Oscar Fernandes, the Congress leader and member of the Rajya Sabha, said that he used to discuss a number of political issues with Dr. V. S. Acharya and that they have had any difference of opinion regarding politics. He said that Dr. Acharya was a gem and a great national leader.

M. A. Gafoor acknowledged the active role played by Dr. V. S. Acharya to ban the practice of using civic workers to carry human excreta.
Speaking about Dr. V. S. Acharya’s friendliness toward opposition parties, he recalled an incident in which Dr. Acharya directed the police to register a case against BJP workers guilty of setting fire to private property in Malpe. Referring to Dr. Acharya as a great leader, he said that he never discriminated against people on the basis of caste, religion, and political party.
Vasanth Salian, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Veronica Cornelio, Amrut Shenoy, and many other Congress workers and leaders shared their feelings about Dr. V. S. Acharya and offered rich tributes to the departed political leader.
