UKCA to organize Fide Rated chess tournaments in Mangalore

Mangalore, July 25, 2012: UKCA President M. S. Gururaj told reporters that the United Karnataka Chess Association (UKCA) will conduct the second UKCA Cup All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament at Subrahmanya Sabha on Jail Road in Mangalore from Aug 15 – 19. 


Addressing a press conference held at Press Club on July 25, Wednesday, he said that the event will comprise an Under 13 and an Under 15 Championship and the State Senior Championship.

He also said that the UKCA is conducting four All India Open Fide Rated Chess Tournaments for the first time in the state while six Fide rated tournaments will be conducted by the District Chess Association and other chess organizations affiliated to the UKCA. 


The event has a total prize pool of Rs. 2 lakh to be shared among 65 players. The organizers will arrange beverages, food, and water to all these players and those accompanying them for five days. A total of 300 players will take part in the tournament, he said. However, players will have to bring their own chess sets and clocks. The last date for registration is Aug 12, 2012. 


V. Raghavendra, secretary of the UKCA, Sumith Bhat and M. S. Madhava, members of the UKCA, were also present at the press conference. 


The UKCA is a body recognized by the state government’s department of youth services and sports and is affiliated to the All India Chess Federation. This year, it will conduct 15 Fide rated tournaments, including the under 15, under 13, and state open championships in Mangalore.
