Mangalore, Feb 4, 2012: Twelve female painters of Mangalore will paint their best works at Gandhi Park in Mannagudda. Their best works are displayed in the park, and on Feb 4 – 5, their paintings will be displayed at the same venue.
One of them is Laxmi Saladi, a Tanjavoor painter. Tanjavoor paintings are made by drawing an outline and adding texture with Arabic gum and chalk powder. One of the most remarkable paintings at the venue was by Renuka, who teaches at Prasad Art School.
Renuka, who has been painting for 12 years, has 200 paintings to her credit. One of her paintings, called “Aasare,” shows two creepers wrapped around window grills. It also happens to be her recent painting.
Vanita G. Pai, the CEO of Ekam Candles, inaugurated this event, known as Varna Vanita, by applying tilak to a painting by Reshma Shetty. The event is being organized by the female artists of Karavali Chitakalavidara Chaavadi.
In her address, Kodibettu Rajalaksmi spoke of the importance of art criticism and art exhibition, which will encourage public discussion of the same in newspapers.
Veena Shrinivas, Asha Shetty, Sapna Noronha, Sudha Nayak, Vidhya Kamath, Renuka, Veena Madhusudhan, Laxmi Bijili, Sheela Nayak, Jayashree, Nisha Bangera, and Reshma Shetty were the twelve female paintings participating in this event.
