Tourism minister lays foundation stone for yathri nivas at Krishna Mutt

Udupi, Sept. 17, 2012: Anand Singh, state tourism minister, laid the foundation stone for the yathri nivas at Krishna Mutt on September 17, Monday.

The yathri nivas is expected to be a five-storied building, which requires Rs. 4.5 crore. The tourism department has already sanctioned Rs. 1.5 crore of this amount.

After laying the foundation stone, the minister visited Heritage Village, which he said is an ideal place for tourism development. Although a lot has been spent on renovating the Heritage Village, its entrance is still not satisfactory, said the minister, adding that 40 cents of government land will soon be added to this project.

 

Yathri Nivas

 

Stating that the government has approved the Manipal Lake development project, he said that it will soon be renovated.

The minister said that the central government will sanction Rs. 50 crore for the development of coastal areas within one month. Stating that Malpe Beach is too small for tourists, he said that the government will invest Rs. 2 crore in beach development.

Stating that Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for the second phase of the Malpe boat jetty development, he said that MLA Raghupathi Bhat has forwarded a proposal for the construction of a separate jetty for St. Mary’s Islands.

Tourism Director G. Sathyavathy, Principal Secretary Latha Krishna Rao, and others were also present.
