Tourism Minister Anand Singh refuses to address the press

Mangalore, Sep18, 2012 : B. S. Anand Singh, state tourism minister, refused to talk to reporters in spite of the fact that they had been waiting for him for more than two hours on September 17, Monday.

 

 

 

When a reporter informed him that they had been waiting for him for over two hours, he curtly replied that he had informed a reporter that he does not have the time to address the press now, but cannot remember the reporter as he is not familiar with local media people.

A group of over 20 reporters waited for the minister, who was scheduled to visit Tannirbhavi on the afternoon of September 17, Monday and inspect the site of the proposed golf court project in Bengre. Although reporters arrived at Bengre at 3:00 p.m., the minister was nowhere in sight. Moreover, neither the police nor the officials knew about his schedule or the timing of his visit to Bengre.

Finally, Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly, informed the gathering that the minister will first visit the NMPT guest house in Tannirbhavi. The reporters immediately rushed to the guest house, but the minster had not yet arrived although the DC and Mr. Yogish Bhat had already reached the spot.

When the minister finally arrived, he was welcomed by the DC and Yogish Bhat and they had a closed-door meeting for 45 minutes while media persons continued to cool their heels outside.

When he finally emerged from the room, the media expected to receive information regarding plans, projects, and funding details, but the minister never addressed the press. Even as the deputy speaker and the DC got into the minister’s car, the media clamored for answers to their queries. But the minister just told them that he had informed an unknown reporter that he does not have the time to address the press and left the place without making any other statement.
