Mangalore, Feb 8: Rural Circle Inspector B. R. Lingappa has been suspended from his post following the raid on “Bouncer,” a bar in Thokkottu, on the night of Saturday. Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh told reporters that B. R. Lingappa has been suspended from Monday because of certain complaints that have been lodged against him.
Revealing further details, the police commissioner said that people had complained about Circle Inspector Lingappa’s failure to stop the illegal activities that were taking place within his jurisdiction. He said that Lingappa has been dealt with sternly following the raid on the Thokkottu pub by Panambur ACP Puttamadaiah and his team.
The suspended inspector is allegedly involved with the sand mafia. The bar in Thokkottu, which was recently raided, is located within Sarovar Bar and Restaurant. Allegedly, this sleazy bar was being run with the cooperation and support of the inspector. Certain sources allege that the inspector himself was running this bar through third parties. Interestingly, Sarovar Bar and Restaurant belongs to BJP leader Chandrahas Ullal.
Circle Inspector Lingappa was kept out of the team that raided the bar on the night of Saturday. The police have arrested 5 young women and many others from the bar.
Although the pub was licensed to run from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., it stayed open till late into the night. People had complainted that live bands and cabaret dances were shown at the bar late into the night. Accordingly, the police team raided the bar at 11:45 p.m.
Panambur ACP Puttamadaiah has submitted a detailed report to the police commissioner, according to which Circle Inspector Lingappa has been suspended.
Traffic Inspector Manjunath Shetty has been appointed as the new rural circle inspector.
