Puttur, Jan 25, 2026: Police are investigating an alleged case of filicide following the death of a 17-year-old boy and serious injuries to his father at Pade in Ramakunja village under Kadaba police station limits on Saturday evening.

The deceased, Moksha, was found with a gunshot wound at his residence, while his father, Vasanth Poojary alias Vasanth Amin (50), was found with grievous stab injuries. Initial accounts suggested that the boy had attacked his father and later died by suicide. However, a complaint filed by the boy’s mother has led police to probe allegations that the father shot his son and then attempted to take his own life.

According to police, Vasanth had been living with his son in an old house on agricultural land at Pade. He reportedly contacted acquaintances claiming his son had stabbed him and later shot himself. Locals who rushed to the house found Vasanth critically injured and the boy dead. Vasanth was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where he is undergoing treatment under police guard.

The boy’s mother, Jayashree, alleged in her complaint that the property at Ramakunja is in her name and that her husband had been pressuring her to transfer it to him, which the boy opposed. She said she had been living separately at her parental home in Perla, Kasargod district, due to marital discord.

She further stated that the boy, who had been staying with her, was taken to Ramakunja about a month ago and that on the day of the incident, Vasanth took him to Mangaluru on the pretext of medical treatment. She alleged that the boy had called her expressing fear and holding his father responsible if anything happened to him.

Based on the complaint, Kadaba police have registered a case against Vasanth Poojary and are investigating all angles, including a property dispute and prolonged domestic discord.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar S Bhooma Reddy inspected the spot. Rural Circle Inspector Nagaraj and Kadaba PSI Jamburaj Mahajan were also present. Police said the sequence of events and motive will be established after a detailed investigation.
