Mangalore, Oct 9, 2013: Team Mangalore, the city-based hobby group of kite-flyers, has been invited to the Hong Kong International Kite Festival to be held at Waterfront Park, Cyberfort, Hong Kong, for three days from October 13.

The Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and the Southern District Council of Hong Kong are organising this festival for the first time. Only three countries, India, China and Japan, have been invited to the festival. Team Mangalore will represent India, said a release.
A team of four members — Prashant Upadhyaya, Subhash Pai, Dinesh Holla and Shashank Shetty — will participate in this event.
The team will showcase its new kites Devil Delta, Garuda and Butterfly at the festival.
In addition, other earlier creations such as Yakshagaana, Durga, Charlie, Owl, Gajaraja, Pushpaka Vimana, Bird, Bea Eater, Bat Series, Bharatanatyam and Volcano will be flown.
Kites of all shapes and sizes will be on display including some massive character and theme-based kites.
Workshop
It will be a great gathering of all the kite lovers in Hong Kong. The festival will have workshops where people can learn everything from making kites to flying them, it said.
Dinesh Holla, a team member and an artist, said that team members will teach how to make kites at the festival on October 15. On that day they will not be flying kites.
He will also teach them on line art drawing in which he specialises.
Earlier, Team Mangalore had participated in various international kite festivals held at Canada, the U.K., France, Thailand, Korea, Dubai, Qatar, Sri Lanka and Italy. Its new creation Garuda got accolades from the people of France and Italy.
The team had won first place in the unique design category at Udaipur International Kite Festival for its kite Pushpaka Vimana.
