Team Mangalore’s Pushpaka Vimana to grace French skies

Mangalore, September 5, 2010: Yet another feather to the cap of Team Mangalore, the group of amateur kite flyers of Mangalore. This time they will be flying ‘Pushpaka Vimana’ on the French skies as part of the annual kite festival at Ville de Deieppe which is 350 km away from Paris. The event will be held from September 11 and 18 and the theme this time is Unidentified Flying Object.

Mythology says that several mythological characters including Ravana and Lord Indra used Pushpaka Vimana and in fact mythology also says that it was in this flying machine that Ravana took Sita to Lanka.

Team Mangalore is also the only Indian kite flyers group to be officially invited to take part in the festival.


The team deigned the kit with aid from graphic artist Dinesh Holla who says it has been designed as per the Vedic UFO mentioned in Bhagavatha, Ramayana and Mahabharatha. Pushpaka Vimana, which is getting ready at Mangalore is being built in Ripstop nylon and fibre frame. Dinesh  Holla will hold an on-the-spot sketch exhibition and demo at the festival.


Team Mangalore has already won much laurels in various national and international kite flying events by presenting its unique kite creations including Yakshagana,Kathakali, Gajaraj and Bhootha Kola kites.
