Delivering the keynote address, Kannada lecturer and journalist Narendra Rai Derla urged society to revere schools more than temples and teachers to serve the society without any bias. He voiced his opinion that teachers should preach the religion of humanity, work against social evils, and strive to build a better society. He also said that the recurring incidents of communal violence in DK and Udupi, which are considered to be the nation’s educational hubs, is an example of the failure of the education system.

MLA Yogish Bhat said in his presidential address that the managements of schools must modify the education system and introduce Yoga and other related activities. He also urged teachers to provide top quality education to students and encourage them to develop their talents.

A total of twelve teachers who had won awards at the district level were felicitated on this occasion. Seven of them were primary school teachers and five of them were high school teachers. Thirteen teachers who retired from Nov 2009 to July 2010 were also honoured. Head teachers of 41 high schools received mementos and checks of Rs. 10,000 in recognition of their schools getting hundred percent results in the SSLC exams of 2009-10.

MLA U. T. Khader; Harikrishna Punarooru, the former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishath; Pradeep Kumar Kalkura of the DK district Kannada Sahithya Parishath; Corporator Shantha; and block education officers also participated in the event.
