Mangalore, Jan 18, 2012 : District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said at a press meet held on Jan 18 Wednesday that a number of infrastructure development projects will be launched in the district shortly. Some of these projects include the construction of synthetic track at Mangala Stadium, Pumpwell bus terminus, footpaths, storm water drains, repair of interior roads, and garbage disposal sites, he said.
He said that, in his constituency, development projects worth Rs. 30.6 crore have already been launched. Elaborating, he said that Rs. 4.89 crore is being spent on 74 rural roads, Rs. 5 crore on lake development, and Rs. 3.53 crore on grants to religious places such as churches, temples, and mosques.
He said that Rs. 8 crore will be spent on contructing a synthetic track at Mangala Stadium and added that Rs. 3.09 crore has already been sanctioned.
In response to journalists’ queries regarding the delay in the construction of the bus terminus at Pumpwell, he said that around 8 acres of land has already been acquired for this project, which is being delayed because certain officials are unavailable at present. When a reporter pointed that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had opposed the construction of the Pumpwell bus terminus, he said that no opposition will prevent the terminus from coming up and that a temporary bus shelter will be constructed first.
Regarding plans to beautify Mangalore with the assistance of builders and developers, he said that this plan has met with a lot of opposition. He also said that so far he has not come across any demands for funds for Pilikula Nisargadhama and promised to include the demands in the following budget session.
