Mangalore, June 18, 2013 : A surprise raid on the district jail by a police team led by Mysore Division DIG( Prisons) Vishwanathaiah on June 17, Monday evening, led to the detection of ganja, mobile phones and playing cards inside the jail premises.
The police team found two packets of ganja as many as 12 mobile phones, seven chargers and two boxes of playing cards.
Speaking to reporters later, the DIG Prisons said the raid was carried out as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. He informed that at a recent meeting convened by the CM it was decided to carry out raids on jails across the state. He hinted that more such raids would follow.
The DIG said the police team does not know to whom the mobile phones and ganja belonged to but found them hidden inside the jail. Investigations will follow, he said.
Other police personnel who were part of the operation were ACPs Kiran and Kavitha, SIs Nandakumar, Madan Kumar, Shareef, Ramakrishna and Circle Inspector Ravish Naik.
