Mangalore, Jun 23: Frustrated when the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) hardly bothered about their protests, the street vendors got ready to gherao the residence of Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat at MG Road today, but the police stopped them at SDM College.
Expressing his rage and frustration before media persons, street vendor Santhosh Kumar said that the MCC hardly takes any action against the rich, but bothers poor vendors who eke out an honest living on the footpaths.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, the honorary president of the Street Vendors’ Union, announced yesterday that a protest rally will be taken from State Bank of India to the residence of Yogish Bhat.
Today, when MCC’s Civic Tiger approached State Bank to evict street vendors who were running their business, a number of union members rushed to the spot, stopped the vehicle, and took back the confiscated goods. There was also a brief altercation between the Pandeswar Police and the protestors.
Reportedly, Yogish Bhat is now in Bangalore.
