Mangalore, May 6: Mangalore University Academic Council has unanimously decided not to recognise three courses started by St Aloysius College without approval of the University.

Addressing the Academic Council meeting on Thursday, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankarmurthy said that St Aloysius College had started  MCom (Applied Finance and Accounting),  MA in Applied Economics and MA in  Communication during 2008-09 without any approval or permission from the Mangalore University.   The College sought autonomy for the said three courses in November 2009.

Inspection Committee

A three member committee was constituted by the University to inspect the infrastructure of the college.  On 03-04-2010, the Committee led by Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof Vishwanath visited the college and recommended that the application for grant of autonomy for the said courses should not be granted as the College is ‘not fit’ for autonomy for running the three courses.

The committee has pointed that the staff recruitment to teach the courses and the examination pattern followed for the said courses are not as per the university guidelines. Qualified staff have not been appointed for all the three courses. Most of the teaching staff do not posses required qualifications and the staff teaching the undergraduates are teaching the PG students as well, the report pointed.

The Vice Chancellor  said that the students who have passed the said courses will not be considered as students of Mangalore University. He said that apart from the said three courses which have not been recognised by the University, there are courses like BSc Computer Science, BA Computer Animation, MSc Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bio Technology, Mathematics and Holistic Psychological Counselling taught in the college where the college has violated the examination pattern by following 50-50 pattern instead of 80-20.
