Punjab boy, 10, gets Bal Puraskar for serving soldiers during Op Sindoor

New Delhi, December 27, 2025: Shravan Singh, a 10-year-old boy from Punjab’s Ferozepur, was awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by President Droupadi Murmu on Friday for his courage, compassion, and patriotism, recognised for supporting Indian Army troops during Operation Sindoor.

A class five student, Sharavn, amidst the risks associated with war during Operation Sindoor, used to regularly serve milk, tea, buttermilk, and ice to soldiers posted at the border areas between India and Pakistan.

Amidst tough situations, the boy was more than eager to help the troops and even offered his home for their stay.

“When Operation Sindoor began against Pakistan, soldiers came to our village. I thought I should serve them. I used to take milk, tea, buttermilk, and ice for them daily," the 10-year-old told news agency ANI.

“I feel great to be awarded. I had never dreamt of it," he added.

Operation Sindoor

India launched “precision strikes" under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists, including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides.

The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.

Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar

President Murmu on Friday conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 20 children for their exceptional achievements in the fields of Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture and Science & Technology at a ceremony held in New Delhi.

In 2025, 20 children from 18 States and Union Territories have been selected for this prestigious national honour conferred annually by the Government of India.

The Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is a prestigious national honour conferred annually by the Government of India on children for exceptional excellence in Bravery, Art & Culture, Environment, Social Service, Science & Technology, and Sports.

These awards are being conferred on December 26, on the occasion of Veer Baal Diwas. It is observed on December 26 to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the sons of 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, whose sacrifice has continued to inspire future generations.
