Several projects initiated at Tannirbavi beach to facilitate Blue Flag tag

Mangaluru, Sep 28, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra has said that it has been proposed to hold a meeting with the district in-charge minister and other legislators of the district with regard to further encouraging tourism in the district and holding of Karavali Utsav.

He was speaking at a function held at Tannirbavi beach on the occasion of World Tourism Day to lay foundation for various projects to facilitate getting a Blue Flag tag to the Beach. The  programme was jointly organised by the District Administration, Mangaluru Smart City Limited, Union Ministry for Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Department of Tourism.

Stating that there were ample opportunities for tourism promotion he said the district is known for its beach tourism as well as temple tourism. Plans are afoot to develop many beaches in the district, he said.

He said tenders have been floated to develop the Panambur beach on a PPP Model  and then initiate similar projects in other beaches.

Mangaluru North MLA Y Bharath Shetty who presided over the function, said there is a proposal to develop the district as a tourism hub. He said Projects worth Rs 7.5 crore are being taken up at Tannirbavi beach to facilitate Blue Flag certification.

World Tourism Day programme was inaugurated by Coastal Development Authority President Mattaru Ratnaker Hegde.
